Kefalonia
Yacht Charter around the Greek Island of Kefalonia
Fiskardo, one of the prettiest harbours you could wish to find, is on the Erissos peninsula at the northern tip of Kefalonia, a stunning area full of flora and fauna. Fiskardo harbourside has a wonderful cosmopolitan feel to it and some of the finest Greek cuisine can be found in its restaurants. One of our favourites is Iridas a family-run cocktail bar and restaurant where you can relax over some fantastic food and a cocktail or two. It’s a wonderful place to visit at any time of day, whether you want to dine or just have a coffee and watch the world go by.
A two-hour sail around the northern tip takes you to Assos a beautiful, secluded village protected by its own Venetian hill fort which sits above the pretty harbour. It’s the perfect stop for lunch or for taking a swim.
A two-hour sail to the east of Fiskardo lies the Isle of Ithaca, the archaeologists’ choice as the fabled home of Odysseus. On the east side of the island is Kioni, with a beautiful deep water harbour that attracts many yachts in high summer. Lining the harbourside is a plethora of Greek bars and bistros that serve a wide range of simple, fresh Greek cuisine. Although this can be a busy place it has lost none of its simplistic charm and, with its surrounding village, is a pure pleasure to visit.
Further east is Atoko, a conical island where, on the south side, you can see the massive upheaval of the Earth's crust that created the island. One house bay has a tiny church - the door is always open and passing fishermen and yachties can often be found praying for good weather and safe passage.
The wealth of history that surrounds these islands and the warmth of the people that inhabit them will leave the visitor with the unending urge to return again and again.
